Certificate fields

Certificate fields are used to define the properties of a certificate issued by certificate manager. These fields are used to populate the certificate with relevant information, such as the Common Name (CN), Organization (O), and Organizational Unit (OU). The fields can be customized to suit the needs of your organization and the certificates you issue.

Application methods

  • Apply fields to all certificate issued by your organization under the Certificates > Fields page in the EMC.
    • You might use this to set the default value of the Organization (O) field to your organization name, so that all certificates issued by your organization will have the same organization name.
  • Apply fields to a specific trust chain under the Certificate fields page on the trust chain view.
    • You might use this to set the default value of the Organizational Unit (OU) field to a specific department within your organization, so that all certificates issued under that trust chain will have the same OU.
  • Apply fields to a specific issuance policy in the issuance policy view within a trust chain.
    • You might use this to set a custom URI for the certificate, so that all certificates issued under that issuance policy will have the same URI.
  • Apply fields directly to a node/user under the Certificates > Manage fields tab on the node/user view.
    • You might use this to set the DNS name for a specific node that will be used for a web server, so that the certificate issued to that node will have the proper DNS name for TLS validation.
